SHAN SHUI 地平线

SHAN SHUI 地平线 Interactive installation by Geert Mul
"Perspective is a cultural property and so is perception. The history of landscape paintings reveals a history of perception. The cultural relativity of perception becomes most apparent when we look at ‘the east’ (east of what ?) which serves as an excellent point of reflection for ‘the west’ (west of what ?) and the other way around.
The interactive installations Shan-Shui and HORIZONS (vimeo.com/36303071) form a complementary outlook on the perception of the landscape, from west to east.
Interactive installation featuring 500 Shan-Shui (Mountain - Water) style Chinese paintings.

"It is very dangerous to believe something blindly. It could lead to a limited view of the world in a state of mind control. We should remind ourselves that nothing is absolute. Everything is relative, and what it means depends on the relationship it is in with all else."
